Tracer 100
The SafeTrac Tracer 100 is a sophisticated
hardware 22mm x 80mm in size. It is designed for use in vehicles
where the full SafeTrac Tracer 200 is not appropriate.
It uses the GPS satellite positioning system
to record its position and GSM communications to pass the recorded
information back to base and when combined with STACC base station
software provides a complete vehicle tracking solution.
Hardware
The small size of the SafeTrac Tracer 100
hardware means it can be used in small vehicles such as vans and
cars. It is also being used for earth moving plant and static machinery.
The SafeTrac Tracer 100 can be connected to the ignition
to detect engine on/off and idling.
How does the SafeTrac Tracer 100 work?
The SafeTrac Tracer 100 provides three
main functions:
- Providing position information (via the on-board GPS)
- Storing that position information until it is needed (stored
in the on-board memory)
- Transmitting that position from vehicle to base-station
(via the unique STACC communication protocols)
Positional information for each vehicle is provided
through the use of Global Positioning System receiver which resides
within the SafeTrac Tracer 100 on each vehicle. The Global
Positioning System (GPS) is a world-wide radio-navigation system
formed from a constellation of 24 satellites and their ground stations,
developed and controlled by the US Department of Defence. These
satellites transmit constant orbital position information, very
precise time information, and any error corrections that need to
be taken in consideration when making calculations based on this
information. The GPS receiver in the SafeTrac Tracer 100
interprets the signals broadcast by at least three satellites to
"triangulate" a general position. Triangulation requires the receiver
to use the clock reading, location, and orbit of each satellite
and mathematically determine its relative location. A fourth satellite
is used for time corrections between the GPS receiver and satellite's
clocks.
Storing Location
With the benefit of the onboard memory within
the SafeTrac Tracer 100, positional information can be stored
ready for transmission to the base station. The frequency with which
you communicate with your assets is very much your choice.
You may wish to track you vehicle every 2 minutes,
or you may only want to know their positions twice a day. Whichever
you choose, you can be sure that the onboard memory will pass all
the positional information to you for the entire period. The
SafeTrac Tracer 100 stores it all until you need it. We have
clients whose vehicles are on the continent for an entire week -
the routes they took are then download when they return and analysed.
This costs them a single 2-minute call to the vehicle. Imagine -
2 weeks of tracks for the cost of 1 phone call!
