Tracer 200

The SafeTrac Tracer 200 is a sophisticated hardware tracking and logging device of similar size to a VHS cassette. It uses the GPS satellite positioning system to record its position and GSM communications to pass the recorded information back to base and when combined with STACC base station software provides a complete vehicle tracking solution.

The SafeTrac Tracer 200 and STACC are the standard tracking and performance analysis equipment used by MAN and ERF trucks.

Hardware

The SafeTrac Tracer 200 hardware is delivered in a metal casing specifically designed to withstand the rigours of the road.

The SafeTrac Tracer 200 can be connected to additional external devices to provide additional functions such as driver messaging or temperature logging.

The SafeTrac Tracer 200 can be connected to ignition and fuel lines to detect idling and fuel consumption. Alternatively for vehicles with a J1939 CAN interface fuel and ignition data can be gathered from the engine management system instead. Additionally with the J1939 CAN interface driver performance data can be gathered allowing the STACC software to report when and where incidents of over revving, coasting, harsh braking, speeding etc. occurred.

There are also extra general purpose digital input input lines that may be connected to any number of auxiliary devices e.g. sweepers, pressure sensors, temperature sensors, door switches etc.

How does the SafeTrac Tracer 200 work?

The SafeTrac Tracer 200 provides three main functions:

  • Providing position information (via the on-board GPS)
  • Storing that position information until it is needed (stored in the on-board memory)
  • Transmitting that position from vehicle to base-station (via the unique STACC  communication protocols)

Positional information for each vehicle is provided through the use of Global Positioning System receiver which resides within the SafeTrac Tracer 200 on each vehicle. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a world-wide radio-navigation system formed from a constellation of 24 satellites and their ground stations, developed and controlled by the US Department of Defence. These satellites transmit constant orbital position information, very precise time information, and any error corrections that need to be taken in consideration when making calculations based on this information. The GPS receiver in the SafeTrac Tracer 200 interprets the signals broadcast by at least three satellites to "triangulate" a general position. Triangulation requires the receiver to use the clock reading, location, and orbit of each satellite and mathematically determine its relative location. A fourth satellite is used for time corrections between the GPS receiver and satellite's clocks.

Storing Location

With the benefit of the onboard memory within the SafeTrac Tracer 200, positional information can be stored ready for transmission to the base station. The frequency with which you communicate with your assets is very much your choice.

You may wish to track you vehicle every 2 minutes, or you may only want to know their positions twice a day. Whichever you choose, you can be sure that the onboard memory will pass all the positional information to you for the entire period. The SafeTrac Tracer 200 stores it all until you need it. We have clients whose vehicles are on the continent for an entire week - the routes they took are then download when they return and analysed. This costs them a single 2-minute call to the vehicle. Imagine - 2 weeks of tracks for the cost of 1 phone call!

This helps significantly in reducing communication costs.

Additional SafeTrac Tracer 200 options from SafeTrac

For those who wish to realise the real savings that SafeTrac Tracer 200 and STACC can bring, then consider discussing the system's range of the base-to-vehicle communication capabilities that are provided by the Communication Module. These can range in levels of sophistication from simple in-cab displays with pre-formatted text messages for two-way message transmission to hands free voice operation with base station configured phone book.

Your personnel and asset security concerns can also be addressed by the SafeTrac Tracer 200's Security Module. This comprises of an in-cab panic button.
